Sigma Alpha Iota (Alpha Chapter) was founded on June 12, 1903 at the University School of Music in Ann Arbor, Michigan by seven women:

On November 3rd 1966, “Syrinx”- a woman’s music organization which was to eventually
become the USF chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota, had its first meeting. There were nine members
present. The temporary chairperson Robin Horer, introduced Mrs. Ruth Gould,
National Vice President of SAI who encouraged them to form a new chapter.
Officers were elected and a constitution and by-laws
were adopted in accordance with
those of Sigma Alpha Iota.
During the weekend of November 19th, 20th, and 21st, “Syrinx” was installed as a chapter of SAI. Friday November 19th the chapter was installed. Saturday, November 20th, the members performed their first musicale as SAI. Mrs. Ruth Gould, NVP, presided at these ceremonies.
Currently the Delta Chi chapter consists of 17 active sisters and 100+ alumnae.
